Are you eligible to become a United States (U.S.) citizen?
  • If you recieved your green card through a fiance’ or spouse, then you are eligible to file for U.S. citizenship three years after receiving your green card.
  • If you were granted Asylum, you may qualify to file for U.S. citizenship four years after receiving your green card.
  • Most other green card holders will have to wait five years after receiving their green card before they are eligible to file for U.S. citizenship.
